is a professional archaeologist who began his career in 1968. He has extensive experience of archaeological fieldwork and heritage consultancy and graduated from the University of Wales (Bangor) in 1977. He obtained a PhD from the University of Southampton in 1991.

After a period working as a freelance archaeologist he joined the Hertfordshire Archaeological Trust as a Project Director in 1989. In 1992 he joined the Oxford Archaeological Unit as a Project Officer and later moved to Tempvs Reparatvm where he directed a number of large scale landscape projects, notably that at Rectory Farm, Lincolnshire. He established Archaeological Services and Consultancy Ltd in 1996, where he practiced as Project Manager and Consultant. He founded Icknield Archaeology Ltd with David Fell in 2014.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and became a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (London) in 2012. He has acted as a consultant relating to planning, landscape development and matters relating to public rights of way.
